Livio Internet Radio

Posted in Uncategorized on July 21, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
As an Internet Radio Station, my antennae are always tuned to any information about this new medium.  Which is why I must have picked up on this entry in TIME magazine’s DETROIT BLOG about one of the latest ways the Motor City is trying to wipe off the rust and reinvent itself in the Information Age.  Turns out that LIVIO Internet Radios were invented there, by a new Detroit pioneer, Jake Sigel.  As the article states:

"To Sigal, Michigan is amazing with its business incubators, venture capitalists and overall desire to help the small business get a boost. He loves Ann Arbor SPARK, Oakland County’s Automation alley and Detroit’s TechTown. He loves the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, which helped him develop his business plan. Or the small-business mentors at SCORE, which gave him tons of great advice.

Everybody around here wants more business start-ups. More original thinking and brain power. More job creation. The next Henry Ford-esque idea. Sigal is the kind of guy that personifies the next wave of entrepreneurship in Michigan – the stuff that will get us noticed in the right way (and not for eating raccoons, general public).

Some about Livio: Sigal’s company (he’s founder and COO) developed the Livio Radio to let users listen to Internet radio at home without being chained to a computer. The Livio machine also can hook up with Pandora and NPR through some special partnerships Sigal and staff have coordinated. Think of it as a Wi-Fi radio.

“I’m so passionate about music. The music I love isn’t available on AM or FM radio. I like this specific electronic music, and I can’t find that through mainstream sources. But on Internet radio there are something like 20 choices on this specific type of music.… Having that accessibility to that music is what makes Internet radio so great,” Sigal said.

Livio and its pals also can do “live and local.” So if I upped and moved to Germany, I can still listen to my beloved Roberta Jasina on WWJ-AM every morning, he promised. I just might have to get a little more tech savvy, methinks."

Me thinks i might tune in as well,  if for no other reason than to stay in touch with where I also grew up as it comes out with its latest slump with a new model for success: Internet Radio.

Seth Godin on the Tribes We Lead

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: tribes. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.

We’d argue that one of the easiest and most effective waysto do that is thru Hosting Your Own Internet Radio Show.  How else can you start a movement overnight?  How else can you instantly start a conversation and connect people to it?  What easier way to get people to listen and pass it onto others, in true viral fashion?  All you have to do to form a tribe around your product or service is stand on our soapbox and start speaking.

Fascinating perspective on the power of new Social Mediums, particularly this one.

The OC Band LIT was interviewed by Michelle Patterson (Orange County’s unofficial hostess) in advance of their headline appearance at Taste of Ladera May 1 (at Founder’s Park) and the response was overwhelming. As station manager Paul Roberts reported, “LIT’s appearance on the show OC SPOTLIGHT litereally lit up our phone and chat lines”. TIME Recognizes “The Fast Growing World of Internet Radio”

Posted in Uncategorized on March 26, 2010 by OC Talk Radio

In their special investigation into "post industrial Detroit", TIME magazine wrote about "a fairly new group of young Detroit women who are looking to leave the freshest broadcast imprint" in "the fast-growing world of Internet radio" (their words, not mine!)

The show is called ALL GIRL TALK RADIO and features lively discussions with four "Detroit-raised businesswomen, wives and moms" who have (according to TIME) "steadily gathered steam in recent months as their hot topics and smart, sassy on-air personalities have reeled in thousands of listeners a week, some as nearby as W. 7 Mile Road and some as far away as the United Kingdom".

I mention it here for two reasons:

1.  I’m an ex-Detroiter who always likes to hear ANY good news from back home and

2.  As an even prouder INTERNET RADIO PIONEER who is thrilled to hear words like "the fast-growing world of Internet radio" and "the growing world of online radio" included in ANY mainstream magazine article.  Could they be catching on to the most powerful social medium ever imagined?

You can read more at TIME’s year long investigaton project called (what else?) THE DETROIT BLOG.

New iPhone App Plays OC Talk Radio

Posted in Uncategorized on March 21, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
As all our loyal listeners know by now, OC Talk Radio will play on any internet enabled smart phone.  But SPARK RADIO has taken that concept to a new level by creating the first iPhone app that allows you to keep surfing the web while listening to our "stimulating conversations" in the background thru the addition of a built-in web browser.

Using the station directory supplied by our partner RADIO TIME, listeners can instantly tune into OC TALK RADIO or 10,000 other top rated internet and terrestrial stations from around the world, with new stations being added daily.  The expectation is that there will be more than 30,000 available by April. This means users can listen to precisely what they want, when they want, whether it be music, talk radio, sports events, public radio or special programming from the ‘global community’ (including our exclusive content broadcast right here from Orange County, California).

An elegant interface and program guide make it easy for users to quickly find their favorite stations. Users can search for stations or programs by keyword, location or the station URL and can browse programming by genre or location. A GPS component even allows listeners to find local stations in any given city based on current GPS coordinates. "The Spark Radio app is a beautiful and fun radio application that opens the world’s selection of music and talk programming that only radio can provide," said Bill Moore, CEO of RadioTime, Inc. "RadioTime makes it easy for Spark Radio users to find their favorite radio stations, like OC Talk Radio, and discover new ones from wherever they are." And Spark Radio has a social component which allows listeners to create a profile and see what other people are listening to at any given moment by using an interactive Globe Navigator. Ratings of stations can be shared in the community along with any favorites.

So if you want to instantly become part of a community of listeners tuned into a wide range of community stations from around the world, check out the new Apple iPhone app called SPARK RADIO.  It’s available for download through iTunes for $5.99.

Why I Host a Show

Posted in Uncategorized on February 20, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
One of our new hosts, Michelle Patterson (OCSpotlight, Wednesdays from 3-4pm PST) has written about "why I’m hosting a show on OC Talk Radio" in her monthly column in the local Ladera Times.  Check it out!

A new "OC Talk Radio" format has been launched on the Internet by Paul Roberts of Orange County that enables business people to have their own talk shows.

As a result, my two companies – Event Complete and TouchPointe – are co-sponsoring an hour-long talk show called "OC Spotlight" from 3:00 to 4:00 pm every Wednesday.

The program features events planned in and around Ladera Ranch and highlights the businesses, charities and organizations who bring those events to life.  Guests share and discuss a wide variety of topics ranging from their involvement at the event to how they are able to manage a busy schedule.  This past show focused on the  upcoming Taste of Ladera (at Founders Park, Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2). The show enables people to call in and add their thoughts to the discussion.

To listen to the program, go to www.octalkradio.net and click the “ON AIR” button to listen live.

The following are my Top Ten reasons to participate in OC Talk Radio:

     1. I have a weekly hour-long show from 3:00 to 4:00 pm each Wednesday with fascinating guests and interesting topics to discuss.  Check out the schedule on-line for upcoming guests as well as be a part of the audience as we go “on location” broadcasting live for special events.

     2. Ladera Times is going to launch "Open Mike" on April 7 to run either before or after my show on Wednesdays in which editor and publisher Jim Schmitt and other guest hosts will be interviewing movers and shakers in Ladera Ranch. Remember, you can call in and add you two cents to the debate.

     3. Learn from others. Executive Forum Leaders Ric Franzi & Doug Gfeller host three shows a week on "Critical Mass," on which they feature OC business owners, executives, entrepreneurs and experts who share their ideas, insights and information.

     4. Participate in an exciting new communication tool. OC Talk Radio is essentially a pod-cast but the idea of offering a full line-up of programming is a new concept that you can be part of creating.

     5. Be a guest. If you have something interesting to share with the community or an upcoming event you want to get the word out on call Event Complete at 949-218-0866 and we’ll schedule you to appear on an upcoming program.

6. Have your own show. If you have ideas about what would make a great talk show, discuss it with Paul Roberts, CEO of  West Coast Marketing and creator of OC Talk Radio. HIs phone number is (949) 888-9400.  Let him know you heard OC Talk Radio made it to the TouchPointe Top 10 list!

     7. Listen to and share re-runs. Every show is archived so you never have to miss one. And, if a topic is something you wish to share with others, direct them to www.octalkradio.com.

     8. Keep abreast of OC news and events while working on your computer as the programming runs in the background.

     9. See yourself on video. Well, I’m a little premature on this, but OC Talk Radio creator Paul Roberts is planning on adding video streaming in the not too distant future.

     10. Did I mention that I have an hour-long show on OC Talk Radio from 3:00 to 4:00 pm every Wednesday. Go to http://www.octalkradio.net and sign in to listen and participate.

(Michelle Patterson is the CEO of Event Complete and founder and managing partner of TouchPointe, both headquartered in Ladera Ranch. Event Complete produces many well known events within Southern California and is a full- service event management company, producing Taste of Ladera, The Giant Orange Festival, Muscle Car 1000, and many more signature events. You can reach Event Complete at 949-218-0866, or www.EventComplete.com.

TouchPointe is a senior level consulting and recruiting firm, that provides support in IT, HR, finance and accounting for small and mid-sized companies. You can contact TouchPointe at www.touchpointe.com.
