Hear the amazing story of Ken Potrock, President of DISNEYLAND RESORTS. As he talks about working as a kid in his family’s bakery across from Yankee Stadium. Dreaming big dreams. And then rising from those humble roots to running “the happiest place on Earth”. And how he strives to keep himself and the company grounded and connected to the community by physically walking the park and meeting guests (as Walt did). And helping their “cast” of employees pursue their education goals and put their career dreams within reach by paying for tuition and books at a variety of colleges. With no strings attached! Living proof of what Walt always said, “To all who come to this happy place, WELCOME!” On this week’s edition of OUR COMMUNITY, powered by the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. And Orange County’s only community radio station, OC TALK RADIO.

Meet David Neuman, former head of Disney Television.  And hear an amazing story of “a life well lived”, as he moves thru the top levels of Politics, Network TV, Network News, Television Production and now Movie Production.  Which all started when he landed a prized WHITE HOUSE FELLOWSHIP immediately after graduating UCLA (working in the Reagan White House).  Which opened the door to NBC’s Network Executive Training Program (where he rose thru the ranks of Comedy Development to work on iconic shows like Night Court and Maude). Which led to becoming the President of WALT DISNEY TELEVISION and TOUCHSTONE TV. And then a sudden swerve into Network News as Chief Programming Officer for CNN (where he recruited a young Anderson Cooper).  And later President of Programming for Al Gore’s new CURRENT TV.  Which all somehow led him to becoming a Film Producer for himself (his original childhood dream back in Iowa)..  Wow!  What a story from an amazing storyteller.  Brought to you by the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Orange County’s only community radio station, OC TALK RADIO.

Melissa knew at a very young age that she wanted to help those with cancer.  Initially she wanted to be an oncologist.  A professor took her aside and told her “you have a gift in you as a teacher, educator, researcher, you don’t you consider this as a career?”

Melissa Rowland-Goldsmith, affectionally referred to as Dr RG by her students took that advice and is the Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Biochemistry and Molecular biology and Co-Director, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Chapman University.  We welcome Melissa back to learn about her unique teaching program for future physicians and researchers.

Reflecting back over 25 years with Hirshberg Founder Agi Hirshberg and her daughter Lisa Manheim, Executive Director.  Hirshberg Foundation got its start more than 25 years ago when Ron Hirshberg was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Ron and Agi decided they were going to beat this disease together and live a long life, sadly six months later Ron died.  They had made a promise together to find a cure, it was only natural that Agi would continue after Ron’s death.  We chat about how Hirshberg started with only two doctors, the importance of the “Five Pillars,” the labs Hirshberg has funded, how five universities in the UC system collaborate together.
