OC Talk Radio Host Interviewed in Forbes.com

Posted in Momz Rock the House with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 30, 2010 by OC Talk Radio

Janeane Bernstein, who hosts MOMZ ROCK THE HOUSE every Wednesday from noon-1pm PST here on OC Talk Radio.net, was recently interviewed by Kerry Hannon for her Forbes.com column regarding “second acts” and “mid life career changes” titled (appropriately enough) “SecondVerse”.

After graduating from Syracuse University, where she studied TV, Radio and Film at the Newhouse School of Communications, Janeane began her career working for a consulting firm designing workshops in the training and development field for banking clients like Chase Manhattan (now JPMorgan Chase).

When she lost her job in a downsizing move, she supported herself with top-paying freelance assignments, but knew she wanted to do something different. It wasn’t, however, until she went to a Syracuse alumni luncheon, where she met an older woman, an actress, that her new path began to take shape. She told Bernstein about radio and voiceover work  and gave her the name of her teacher to contact.

And so it began. Bernstein took voiceover classes at night and loved it. When a training workshop video she was handling for Hewlett-Packard needed a narrator, she stepped up. Soon after, she left the corporate world and now she hosts her own show  here on OCTalkRadio.net.

Oprah Calls OC Talk Radio

Wow! It isn’t every week that producers from Oprah‘s nationally syndicated show call us for information on one of our feature stories. But that’s what they did two weeks ago. We were “sworn to secrecy” until today (when the show airs here in OC at 3pm on KABC, Channel 7).

It’s all about the Coble’s in Ladera Ranch, that couple who lost their three children in a horrific car crash three years ago in our community. After the crash, they thought long and hard about having another child, but felt the “calling” and ended up being blessed with triplets one year later. The show is about that amazing miracle as well as their ongoing legal battles with the trucker who hit them (they won that first round) and CAL TRANS (which, according to their records, knew about the potential danger of this exit where they were hit but did nothing to fix it until after the tragedy). They LOST that round in court and actually ended up having to pay nearly $300,000 in penalties to CalTrans for even bringing this suit to bear!  But they are currently appealing that judgement, they say, on behalf of the community and all who might suffer from similar oversights or mistakes in the future.

You can hear it all today at 3p on KABC, Channel 7 or check out Oprah.com.

We were contacted because of the interview we had run on this same subject weeks ago on OPEN MIC w/Jim Schmitt, editor and publisher of the Ladera Times (who was one of the few media outlets keeping this story alive). OPRAH even licensed our episode for use on THEIR website!

So to all our hosts, keep those shows coming and keep them timely and topical.  You never know if some other national outlet like OPRAH may pick up on your story too!

Dialing Up SLMA Radio

Posted in Uncategorized on July 22, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
It’s another opportunity for b-to-b sales execs to learn how to pump up the volume. The Sales Lead Management Association (SLMA) on Tuesday announced the launch of a weekly talk radio program focusing on sales lead management.

Radio commentator Will Crist will host the show, which kicks off  July 29 (5 p.m. PT) featuring an interview with Phil Fernandez, president-CEO of Marketo and Dan McDade, president-CEO and founder of PointClear. Listeners can access the program via the SLMA Web site. The SLMA Radio broadcast will also available through the OC Talk Radio Web site.

“This is not simply blog radio or a podcast; it’s the new live Web radio with all of the quality you expect from a professional radio program,” said James W. Obermayer, executive director of the SLMA, in a news release.

SLMA is accepting commercial advertisers for the Web radio program. There will be three 60-second spots per each 50-minute program. Rates are available on the SLMA Web site.

Livio Internet Radio

Posted in Uncategorized on July 21, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
As an Internet Radio Station, my antennae are always tuned to any information about this new medium.  Which is why I must have picked up on this entry in TIME magazine’s DETROIT BLOG about one of the latest ways the Motor City is trying to wipe off the rust and reinvent itself in the Information Age.  Turns out that LIVIO Internet Radios were invented there, by a new Detroit pioneer, Jake Sigel.  As the article states:

"To Sigal, Michigan is amazing with its business incubators, venture capitalists and overall desire to help the small business get a boost. He loves Ann Arbor SPARK, Oakland County’s Automation alley and Detroit’s TechTown. He loves the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, which helped him develop his business plan. Or the small-business mentors at SCORE, which gave him tons of great advice.

Everybody around here wants more business start-ups. More original thinking and brain power. More job creation. The next Henry Ford-esque idea. Sigal is the kind of guy that personifies the next wave of entrepreneurship in Michigan – the stuff that will get us noticed in the right way (and not for eating raccoons, general public).

Some about Livio: Sigal’s company (he’s founder and COO) developed the Livio Radio to let users listen to Internet radio at home without being chained to a computer. The Livio machine also can hook up with Pandora and NPR through some special partnerships Sigal and staff have coordinated. Think of it as a Wi-Fi radio.

“I’m so passionate about music. The music I love isn’t available on AM or FM radio. I like this specific electronic music, and I can’t find that through mainstream sources. But on Internet radio there are something like 20 choices on this specific type of music.… Having that accessibility to that music is what makes Internet radio so great,” Sigal said.

Livio and its pals also can do “live and local.” So if I upped and moved to Germany, I can still listen to my beloved Roberta Jasina on WWJ-AM every morning, he promised. I just might have to get a little more tech savvy, methinks."

Me thinks i might tune in as well,  if for no other reason than to stay in touch with where I also grew up as it comes out with its latest slump with a new model for success: Internet Radio.

Seth Godin on the Tribes We Lead

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: tribes. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.

We’d argue that one of the easiest and most effective waysto do that is thru Hosting Your Own Internet Radio Show.  How else can you start a movement overnight?  How else can you instantly start a conversation and connect people to it?  What easier way to get people to listen and pass it onto others, in true viral fashion?  All you have to do to form a tribe around your product or service is stand on our soapbox and start speaking.

Fascinating perspective on the power of new Social Mediums, particularly this one.

Will Internet Radio Replace Broadcast?

Posted in Internet Radio on June 8, 2010 by OC Talk Radio
According to Gary Lycan’s recent column in the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, "Internet Radio got a boost June 1 when National Public Radio CEO Vivian Schiller said at a conference in Rancho Palos Verdes that digital will replace broadcast in the next five to ten years. In Schiller’s view, digital radio is increasing, not decreasing the audience size."

Hey, we’ve been saying that all along!  Nice to know we’re in good company…
