Meet Ted Duley, who after a 50 year career in the insurance industry found a new way to work (for fun this time fun) as organizer of the Sacramento Pedego Owners Group (and moderator of their Facebook page). Using the skills he’d acquired as a Sr. VP of Operations, he quickly recruited 71 new members to the group and organized 29 group rides for a total of 2,567 miles. As Ted says, “Having just retired I wasn’t looking for work, but when I purchased my Pedego and discovered how much fun this could be, I just couldn’t help myself from bringing others along for the ride”.  Adding a new line to his long and successful resume, “willing to work for fun”.

Quotes

When I was in a place where I didn’t know that I could run this business by myself, what actually happened from 2017 to 2019 was a 30% revenue increase and a 260% net profit increase. And it was all because of the EOS process.” (4:15) – Dawn Abbott

I love seeing the impact that EOS has. I love small-business owners…and I am saddened when they’re on that treadmill that I once ran.” (5:04) – Dawn Abbott

If [employees are] the most valuable assets, why would we ever want them to be less than? Why would we ever want to not take care of them?” (8:30) – Dawn Abbott

When you’re doing what you love and things that come easily and naturally to you, your energy is high and your production and output is crazy because you’re in your zone. And the minute you have to drop down and do things that you don’t like doing, you can never bring your energy back up that day.” (12:54) – Dawn Abbott

It’s a beautiful thing to be able to have a full, rich life that contains more than just the grind.” (38:06) – Dawn Abbott

Tori Larrick, Patient Service Manager with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network guides us through clinical trials, what to expect and why clinical trial participation is safe.  Tori encourages anyone considering clinical trials to feel comfortable with reaching out to Patient Services and asking questions.  The first step is to feel free to contact PanCAN Patient Services.  They’re happy to talk through any fears or concerns before making a decision.

You can reach out to them on the website pancan.org, call 877-2-PANCAN or email patientservices@pancan.org

This episode of Living Hope is dedicated to our Caregivers.  Caregivers are important to the Survivor’s journey.  We thank our Caregivers and want you to know you are not alone, we are here for you.  Regardless of where you are as a Caregiver you can reach out and speak with a Patient Service Case Manager and also ask to be connected with another Caregiver to share experiences.

Clarification on what is the Institutional Review Board: An IRB consists of at least five members of varying and diverse backgrounds. IRB members should have the professional experience to provide appropriate scientific and ethical review. An IRB must have at least one scientist member and at least one member whose primary concerns are nonscientific.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

As Cyndi Lauper sang, some girls “just wanna have fun”.  That’s certainly the case with this week’s Pedego fun rider Deborah Neff.  Who after finding herself stuck at home alone for too long during COVID, was determined to get out and get active again. So she Googled ebikes, found a hot pink Pedego that matched her style and personality, popped her 8 month old Chihuahua GiGi on the front and took off in search of fun and adventure. Hear how this South Florida woman and her sidekick became the “belle of the ball” at charity rides across the south.  And racked up over 2,000 miles along the way (with her trusty sidekick in tow). “All I have to do is say ‘Gigi, do you want to go for a bike ride?’ and she gets excited”, says Deborah.  And so are we on this week’s holiday adventure tale (or should we say “tail”). Here on the PEDEGO PODCAST.

Quotes

For the first couple of years starting the company, I had my hands in sales, I had my hands in procurement operations, customer service, and finance. While the company was doing well, I was literally losing my mind…I can say unequivocally that we would not be where we are today if we hadn’t found the EOS system.” (1:50) – Lauren Carson

Everybody spends the majority of their waking hours at the office. So, that cultural environment that you can set in the office and how people treat each other really affects everybody’s lives, and they take it home to their families and everything else they do.” (6:32) – Lauren Carson

The core values for us [have been] so powerful as far as setting the tone for the company.” (10:27) – Lauren Carson

The first year, we had a banner year. The numbers were really, really good, but I found myself feeling really empty and probably more depressed than I’ve ever been. It was because that purpose wasn’t there. I thought it was financial for so long, and now I know it’s not.” (14:27) – Lauren Carson

I’m a firm believer that entrepreneurs and business owners have the ability to change the world…We have so many challenges and problems right now, and they can all be tackled by doing things differently.” (15:02) – Lauren Carson

We’ve set up an employee stock option plan so that everybody in the company shares in the company’s success–down to the most entry-level person and all the way up to the top.” (18:46) – Lauren Carson

After turning 60 and asking “now what”, Greg Lewis and his wife Kym decided to pack up their new house, buy a travel trailer and throw in a couple of Pedego eBikes to see where life might take them next.  A new “life on the road” in search of their next great adventure.  Using the travel trailer as their base camp and their eBikes as modern day horses to ride down the trails they discover (and over the the next ridge to whatever awaits them).  Chronicling all this in their new YouTube channel called “WeeRVee”.

So if you want to feel stuck. Or just wanna feel young and yell “weee” again, ride along as “weee” take to the road with Greg and Kym Lewis (and their wee dog Charli) to see where the wind takes them. On this week’s PEDEGO PODCAST.

How to Get Your Book Discovered on Amazon

On this episode of the Pub Date podcast book broads Dr. Jen Dorsey and Vanessa Campos discuss banned books, Scribd, Shel Silverstein (with a side of cannibalism), word of mouth marketing, and how to get your book discovered on Amazon as a self-published author. We try not to nerd out as we cover:

  • Good metadata (what makes up basic metadata, keywords, descriptive phrases, etc.)
  • Creating an Amazon Author Central (you can add extended bio, video content, blog content, images, and more) — Reviews (verified customers and editorial reviews) can help your book’s ranking
  • A+ content (Additional content to help the buyer learn more about your book. Consider adding images (spreads) of your book where you have images, graphs, etc.)
  • When in doubt, browse the competition and find books that are from distributed publishers. These books are more likely to check off major metadata boxes to ensure they’re discovered by new readers.
